offers to the public:

"GESHER"

books in easy Hebrew/ A wide variety of books in easy Hebrew, including classics of Hebrew literature and works dealing with the history of the Zionist settlement, the Jewish people and tradition.

The books are meant to enrich Hebrew studies, provide linguistic and textual enhancement through an encounter with works from the world of Hebrew literature, and develop a link to the language and culture and country.

The Hebrew text is with vowel points and difficult words are translated into English and Russian.

The Gesher library has several series aimed at different levels of Hebrew:

The choice of the series and the books should be according to the age of the pupil or student, the interest and the level of knowledge of Hebrew.

1. "Easy Gesher"

"The Stories of Hilel the Elder" Based on tales of Jewish Sages, with didactic comments for the teacher, by Irit Friedman. Illustrated story about Hillel the Elder:

"Jerusalem Tales" Adapted to easy Hebrew, from various sources, by Ruth Pragai.
An anthology of tales about Jerusalem, the Temple, The Western Wall, The Cave of Tzidkiyahu, Jerusalem Children and more.

"The Tales of the King" / Based on tales of Jewish Sages, with didactic comments for the teacher, by Dr. Aviv Ekroni and Rafi Bannai. The slave of Yannai the King has killed a man. The King sends the slave to a trial of the Sanhedrin (religious Court). The sages of the Sanhedrin demand that the King also be brought to trial. The religious-moral authority against the governing-military authority.

"Eliezer Ben Horkanus Learns Torah" Based on tales of Jewish Sages, developed by Efrat Mintz. The story of Eliezer Ben Horkanus, who comes to Jerusalem to learn Torah with Rabbi Yochanan Ben Zakkai.

"The King and the Golden Shoes" Adapted to easy Hebrew by Irit Friedman. From the stories of Chelem. The King goes out touring the streets of the city and the people fail to pay him respect. What the people of Chelem do in order to solve the problem.

"Jerusalem Day" Told and adapted to easy Hebrew by Efrat Mintz. Illustrated stories for Jerusalem Day:
The Story of Jerusalem;
The Paratroopers and the Western Wall;
The Dream of the Liberation of Jerusalem;
The story of the Gate of Lions;
The Breakthrough into the Old City and more.

"Water in Jerusalem" Based on the tales of Jewish sages, by Dr. Aviv Ekroni and Rafi Bannai, with methodical comments for the teacher. The tale relates the period of the Second Temple and deals with one of the most important subjects of ancient times in Eretz Yisrael and Jerusalem - the Water problem. The tale brings to the fore the conflict between the religion and culture of Israel and the culture of Rome.

"Fables" Based on tales of Jewish Sages, developed by Efrat Mintz.
An anthology of illustrated stories based on tales of the Sages. Twelve famous fables: The Man and the Candle; Two Guards; The Hungry Fox; To Enter in Peace and to leave in Peace; The Dancing Crowd and more.


2. "Gesher"



"Uncle Peretz" By Jacob Shabtai. Adapted to easy Hebrew by Alex Zehavi.
Three stories: "a Marriage Proposal"; "Uncle Peretz"; Departure". The stories take place in Tel Aviv during the 1930's. The world of the 1st generation of immigrants from Poland to Eretz Israel. Family, love, old age, death and remembrance. A discussion of the stories and recommendations to the teacher appear at the end of the book.

"The Hill of Evil Counsel" By Amos Oz. Adapted to easy Hebrew by Alex Zehavi.
The plot takes place in Jerusalem during the period of the British mandate. A story about the life and fears of a child to immigrant parents, having difficulties in adapting to the new environment.

"Jerusalem Stories" By Avigdor Dagan. Translated by Avraham Huss. Adapted to easy Hebrew by Alex Zehavi.
Five short stories: The Porters; Letters to God; The Shofar Blower; The Watchmaker; The Old Man under the Fir Tree.
Jerusalem's uniqueness is expressed in these stories in an original and surprising manner. The subject uniting the heroes of the stories: the joint destiny of war veterans and the belief in the meaning of life. A discussion on the stories an recommendation to the teacher appear at the end of the book.

"Scapegoat" by Eli Amir. Adapted to easy Hebrew by Alex Zehavi.
The story of a group of boys from transit camps, sons of immigrants from Iraq, Morocco, Rumania and Poland, growing up in kibbutz in the 1950's. The encounter becomes a conflict between cultures and values. Nuri, the hero of the story, searches for solution to the conflict through mutual understanding and synthesis.


3. "Gesher for Teens"

"Yigal's Story" by Yisrael Lerman. Adapted to easy Hebrew by Yidal Moldarsky.
The plot of the story takes place in a small settlement in Israel, in the days before the establishment of the state. A child relates the tale of one special summer in his life.
He tells about his family, his friends and especially his beloved brother, killed in the war at the end of that summer.

"The last Witness" by Ami Gedaliah. Adapted to easy Hebrew by Alex Zehavi.
A novel for teens, the subject of which is an attempt to deny the Holocaust. A teacher of history in a small-town high school in Sweden teaches her pupils that the Holocaust never happened. The pupils rebel and battle against the teacher.
