A Song is more than Words
Nitzan Productions, T.V. and Movies
Purpose: Use the medium of song to acquaint
participants with Israeli culture and the way singers, families and
friends cope with losing their loved ones through war. Consider the
values and the fabric of Israeli society over the last 45 years.
Process: Workshop consists of screening each song
in a video cassette individually and relating to it through personal
worksheets, group discussions and a lecture and film on its background.
One example is a song sung by Shoshana Damari about the 35 soldiers
killed en route to Gush Etzion.
Implementors: Yael Nitzan has 12 years of
experience as a TV producer and culture coordinator in high schools and
Kibbutz Gevat.
Target Group: Age 13 to adults interested in an
inside-view of Israel.
No. of Participants: Up to 30 in one group.
Duration of Activity: Each song takes 20 minutes.
There are a total of 7 songs.
Location of Activity: Tzur Yigal, 10 Yasmin Str. or
any location with a video cassette player.
Aids and Materials: Books on Israel's wars, the
peace treaty with Egypt and settlement in the north of the country.
Special Requirements: Participants read provided
material as well as articles for background information on the music and
history of Israel.
