IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE JORDAN VALLEY PIONEERS
United Kibbutz Movement
Purpose: Learn the historical background of the hydro-electric
plant in the Jordan Valley and its founder, Pinchas Rutenberg.
Comprehend the security concerns of the founders. Understand the
issues in the context of current peace negotiations, water,
territory, security.
Process: Receive briefing on history and geography of Jordan
Valley. Ride in tractor drawn wagons from Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov
Ichud along Yarmuk River to dam site at Naharayim. Stop at
Kochava Observation Post, visit dam site and waterworks, see
Gesher Museum and exhibit on last days of Naharayim during War of
Independence.
Implementors: Educators from United Kibbutz Movement kibbutzim.
Target group: Ages 15-30.
No. of Participants: 20-45.
Duration of activity: 5 hours.
Location of activity: Naharayim Dam site near Kibbutz Ashdot
Yaakov Ichud.
