Land and Language Program
Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI)
Purpose: A unique, new program combining Hebrew Language studies and Hiking tours.
Process: The SPNI program, Land and Language, has been created to fulfill the desire of the student to discover the real Israel, to get to know the soul of the country and the people, in unconventional ways via the language and on foot; by climbing the mountains of the Golan, and the Negev, by diving in the Red Sea, and by meeting the nature and the people.
In addition, the program aims to transform the awareness of Hebrew as a holy language into a language used daily, as a means of communication with the people who live in Israel, and so learn about the way of life in Israel today, not as a tourist but as an active participant.
the program is the first of its kind and is unique in that it has been adapter to the needs of the student; it takes place during the summer vacation and at the age the students are searching for their roots and identities.
The many and varied trips in the country, the contact with the flora and fauna, the discussions and the seminars which deal with the question of identity and the Israeli identity in the next century, will, without a doubt, supply the answers to many questions while creating a deep and significant bond with the country.
in contrast to other programs, this program was planned on the basis of lengthy conversations held with students who have visited Israel and described their special needs, wishes and areas of special interest.
