U. Nahon Museum of Italian Jewish Art

Purpose: Direct interaction with magnificent
Italian Jewish art from different eras portraying Italian Jewish culture
and lore. The museum serves as a nucleus for community functions and
activities and strengthens the close relationship between Israel and the
culture and heritage of the Diaspora.
Process: Guided tour of synagogue and museum,
including exhibits and video of Jewish communal life in Italy. Tour
also deals with Jewish art, environmental influence on it and life in an
Italian Jewish community in Israel today. Meet Italian Jews living in
Israel for discussions. On Saturdays, participate in traditional
service resembling that followed during the Second Temple period.
Implementors: Expert museum guides with B.A. and
M.A. in Art Education.
Target Group: 12 years and older.
No. of Participants: 10-40 participants
Duration of Activity: 60-90 minutes.
Location of Activity: The Museum of Italian
Jewish Art in Jerusalem.
Aids and Materials: Booklets explaining exhibits,
audio-visual materials.
Special Requirements: None.
Project Coordinator: The U. Nahon Museum of
Italian Jewish Art presents items and documents pertaining to Jewish
life in Italy from the middle ages to the present, including magnificent
ritual objects used in the synagogue, personal articles used in holiday
observance and household articles. Its main attraction is the ancient
synagogue of Conegliano Veneto, built in the 18th century.
