In the Footsteps of Biblical Characters


The Torah Educational Experience in Israel "Talpiot Center"


Purpose: Introduce students to the most important characters in the Bible, particularly those in their Bible studies curriculum. Acquaint students with Bible stories and help them understand the role played by the characters in Jewish history. Endeavor to help participants learn relevant lessons from the dilemmas faced by the characters.

Process: Participants will go on field trips to the sites of the original Bible stories. The group leader will tell the story, act it out or even use it to activate the group. There will be a strong emphasis on the educational message of the story. The program will end with a summary of the lessons learned from the subject.

Implementors: Group leaders have been trained at the Kfar Etzion field school. They have expertise in guiding Biblical tours in the languages that they speak: English, French, Russian and Heberew

Target Group: Suitable for Jewish schools from abroad or any group already interested in the Bible. Also useful for those whose interest in the subject needs to be aroused.

No. of Participants: Group leader and 25-30 participants.

Duration of Activity: 4 days.

Location of Activity: Jerusalem area.

Aids and Materials: Chapters in the Bible that are covered during the trips.

Special Requirements: None.


Organization/project coordinator: The field school at Kfar Etzion, is headed by Mr. Oriel Feinerman and has had many years of experience in running educational tours and field trips for groups from Israel and abroad.


Other Modules

  1. In the Footsteps of our Forefathers/ the Book of Genesis: Day trip starts at Alonei Mamreh, home of the patriarchs, continues to burial cave and is followed by a walk to the site of the "binding" of Isaac. Finish day with games on Biblical characters.
  2. In the Footsteps of Joshua/ The Book of Joshua: Day Trip begins with hike at Ramat Hamidbar, view of Jordan (death of Moses) and sites in and around Jericho. Night trip on subject: "Sun stands still in Giv'on and the moon in the Valley of Ayalon".
  3. In the Footsteps of Shimshon HaGibor (Samson)/ Book of Judges: An exciting day trip hike along the path of Shimshon's life from his birthplace in Tzor'ah to the Land of the Philistines. Evening activity focuses of Shimshon's trial.
  4. In the Footsteps of Saul and David/ Shmuel 1 & 2 and Psalms: Day trip includes Givat Shaul, the Elah Valley, Caves of Adolam and view of David's mountain. Discuss why David chose Jerusalem as his capital. Evening creative workshop and quiz on both kingdoms.
