LEHAVA - The Israeli Forum
Purpose:
Increase awareness of the importance of ties between Israel
and Diaspora Jewry. Encourage the young people who participate in the
program to become more involved in the process of strengthening and
maintaining this relationship. Develop leadership skills.
Process:
- Joint Israeli-American youth seminar following a screening process
that focuses on motivation and interest in a dialogue on mutual issues.
- Preparatory seminars in Israel and North America.
- Two week program of discussions, field trips, hikes, informal
meetings and hospitality for Americans in the Israelis' homes.
Implementors:
Experienced instructors, many of them are Lehava graduates.
Project Coordinator:
Lehava (Leshana Haba'a Biyerushalayim Ha'benuya)
was initiated in 1986 as a project of the Israeli Forum, a volunteer
organization which works to reinforce and cultivate ties with Diaspora
Jewry. Lehava youth are part of the steering committee and maintain
contacts with other participants long after the actual program finishes.
Target Group: High school students aged 16-18.
No. of Participants: Minimum 40; No Maximum.
Duration of Activity: 2 weeks.
Location of Activity: Throughout Israel.
Aids and Materials: Some articles.
Special Requirements: Interest in Judaism and the Jewish nation,
good knowledge of English, leadership skills.
