WALKING A TIGHTROPE: ISRAELI ARABS IN THE GALILEE
Kibbutz Tuval-Seminar Center
Purpose:
Examine the roots of stereotypes and suspicions which
arise between Arabs and Jews. Broaden participants' understanding
of the delicate position of Arab citizens in Israel in the larger
context of the Arab-Israel conflict.
Process:
Preparatory session on Kibbutz Tuval includes play
reading, text study and simulation games to open subject of Arab-
Jewish relations. Participants then visit Arab village with
questionnaires they prepared, interview residents and hold
discreet discussions with them. Finally, they meet with a "non-
establishment" village figure to verify answers and impressions.
Implementors:
Youth movement graduates who have qualified in
fields of education (both formal and informal), politics, the
performing arts and tour-guiding.
Project Coordinator:
Since 1985, the Kibbutz Tuval Seminar Center has been implementing
programs on the subject of Arab-Jewish relations for participants
from all over the world. It has successfully catered to groups of
all ages and levels of knowledge, from 16 year olds through
students in Masters' programs for Middle Eastern Studies.
