Post-Program
The aim of the project, as has been mentioned above, is to develop a
cadre of young leadership for communities throughout the FSU. Both the
Pre and actual Israel Experience units have been designed to provide training
for participants in leadership skills enabling them to assume leadership
positions in their communities upon return from Israel.
The Post-Program will begin on May 1, 2000 and end on August 31, 2000.
Its focus will be to use the knowledge and experience gained in the first
two stages of the project by providing participants with real and relevant
tasks to perform in their communities. There will be a self-selection
process instituted in connection with task assignments, supplemented by
appropriate allocation of tasks where necessary.
Among the tasks to be assigned:
· Leading and facilitating activities and programs in JAFI clubs and camps
· Managing programs and leadership teams in JAFI clubs and camps
· Working within community programs such as those of the JDC, Hillel and
Chesed.
These responsibilities build on the practical knowledge and skills or
acquired Pre-Program and the Israel Experience workshops and activities.
Follow-up meetings are planned during the Post-Program stage in St. Petersburg,
Moscow and Kiev at which JAFI staff will make inspections to monitor participant's
progress and to ensure the continued smooth running of the project.
At the end of this period there will be appropriate graduation ceremonies
throughout the FSU.
The success of the project will be as much a function of what happens
following the Israel Experience as the actual experience itself.
Evaluation
Evaluation is a crucial part of the project. The success of the project
will be measured as to what degree participants have become involved in
leadership roles within their communities and whether they remain in them.
An independent expert will be employed to carry out this survey. The
participants will be questioned immediately after they return from Israel
and then one-year later to find out what impact the program has had. The
evaluation process should assess what effect the program has had on participants
and how it has changed them. In addition the various stages in the program
will be evaluated.
