Format: Use the following as comparative charts by reprocessing or by pasting them.


  1. LAND, PEACE & SECURITY

    MAFDAL
    • Accept the Oslo Accords as a fait accompli, but would proceed with caution.
    • Israel must be the only state in Judea and Samaria.
    • Opposes withdrawal from Golan

    UNITED TORAH PARTY
    • Eretz Yisrael was given by the Lord
    • Opposes negotiation with the PLO/Oslo Accords
    • Opposes the creation of a Palestinian State
    • Opposes withdrawal from the Golan.

    SHAS
    • Flexible on the issue of land for peace: Shas would be willing to relinquish land if lives could be saved.
    • They believe that when the Messiah comes the Holy land of Israel will automatically return to its rightful owners.
    • Supported Oslo Accords.


  2. SETTLEMENT

    MAFDAL
    • Increase settlement
    • Jews returning to Judea is part of the Messianic process

    UNITED TORAH PARTY
    • Continue settlement

    SHAS
    • See above.


  3. RELIGION

    MAFDAL
    • Mafdal is a Zionist religious Party
    • Will favor legislation to ensure the Jewish nature of the State

    UNITED TORAH PARTY
    • Status quo is harmful to religious interest.
    • Rabbinical courts should be given same standing as secular courts.
    • Women should not serve in the army.

    SHAS
    • Ultra Orthodox Sephardi Party.
    • Wants exemption from the army for all Yeshiva students, no transport on Shabbat, a ban on abortion, introduction of orthodox practices in secular school system.
    • Amend Law of Return


  4. ECONOMY

    MAFDAL
    • Favors privatization of state enterprises except for basic minerals.

    UNITED TORAH PARTY
    • Inflation must be checked
    • Standard of living and wages must not be eroded.

    SHAS
    • Major concern is the preservation of the ultra-orthodox school system.
    • They want to head the finance Committee of the Knesset.


  5. JERUSALEM

    MAFDAL
    • Jerusalem is the spiritual and political capital of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. Opposes all division of the city.

    UNITED TORAH PARTY
    • United Torah considers Jerusalem the spiritual capital of the Jewish people. It opposes all division of the city.

    SHAS
    • Holy Jerusalem is the capital and spiritual center of the Jewish people and cannot be divided or surrendered.
