Programs from Abroad

Levi Deveali Project from Italy

A five-year program for Jewish-Zionist education in the Jewish communities of Italy has been established by the Division and the Union of Italian Communities, under the auspices of Keren Hayesod and with the cooperation of the Education Department and the Torah Education Department of the Joint Authority, and the Pincus and Joint Funds.

Seminars and in-service training for Hebrew language and Jewish studies teachers take place in Italy and Israel. Entire tenth grade classes from Jewish schools in Italy spend two month periods during the school year at the Yemin Orde youth village, studying Hebrew and enriching their Jewish-Zionist studies.

The highlight of the program - a two-year training program for pre-school and elementary school teachers (kindergarten to sixth grade) from all over Italy - is ending its first year. The program includes: 7 weeks of study in Israel, as well as four seminars per year of 7 - 10 days duration in Italy, with two lecturers from Israel at each seminar, and 8-10 hours per week of teacher-training in Italy.
